La Sapienza University, Rome, Italy on September 8th – 10th, 2000. Rectors and Presidents of Universities from countries such as Japan, Russia, China, USA, Argentina, Bosnia Herzegovina, Mozambique attended the conference. Maharaja spoke on “Human Rights in a Legal and Bioethical Perspective”. He was honored with a global award from Paolo Orneli, President of a District of Rome, for his efforts in the fields of science, culture, education, spirituality and peace.

In 1979, Maharaja started the Bhaktivedanta Institute Mission School in Manipur with the hope of training the future scientists and philosophers of the world. The school has over 500 students and has been operating continuously for over 20 years. The students, along with their regular education, receive both moral and spiritual training with the intention of guiding them towards the higher purpose of life. Maharaja has opened another Bhaktivedanta Mission School in Moirang, Manipur, which also has over 600 students. He oversees a network of Bhaktivedanta Institute Mission Schools in Northeast India with a collective enrollment of over 4000 students.
